A Joined-up EU Wide Approach to Protecting Our Population - COVIRNA Project Updates

COVIRNA is a patient-centered Innovation Action aiming to generate a diagnostic tool to identify COVID-19 patients at risk of developing fatal cardiovascular complications. The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under Grant Agreement No. 101016072.

IUS COVIRNA Project Coordinator, Associate Professor Dr. Kanita Karađuzović – Hadžiabdić from the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) reminds that the idea for this project was born in the early spring of 2020, as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project started in November 2021 and will end by the end of April 2023.

A lot of activities regarding the project were conducted by the COVIRNA Consortium and COVIRNA Project IUS staff members during the previous two years. This update will present the ones conducted over the past few months.

Associate Professor Dr. Kanita Karađuzović – Hadžiabdić and Assistant Professor Dr. Muhamed Adilović visited University of Luxemburg and Luxemburg Institute of Health in September 2022 to work on Project activities as well as discuss the action plan for the upcoming months. On January 5, 2023, investigators of three of EU projects (COVIRNA, ENVISION, COVend) organized a joint webinar to discuss their achievements and challenges in common – which are not specific to them but are often shared by projects in the research and medical technology development process. They discussed successful practices on how to respond to clinicians' expectations at the same time as patients’ needs. In addition, an online COVIRNA Consortium follow-up meeting was held on January 19, 2023. During the meeting, project's main developments and results were discussed, as well as future plans. Another online COVIRNA webinar titled “Patient-centred Approaches to Long COVID“ will take place March 2, 2023.

One of the upcoming activities will be a visit to Josef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana from January 30 - February 3, 2023, where Dr. Karađuzović – Hadžiabdić and Dr. Adilović will continue working on the COVIRNA project.
